Power Core Flow

yogaś-citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ … yoga is cessation of the mind.

This practice will challenge you physically as well as mentally, taking you through a strong fluid practice that reminds you of the breath and centre that supports you. It requires that you still the mind and get deeper into each asana with breath…an unfolding of a deeper understanding of your own inner power …ON and OFF the mat. No water to be taken during the flow but do bring a towel and a mat. This flow will challenge your balance, your strength, your flexibility and more importantly connects your mind, body and soul

Ener-Chi

Have you ever tried meditation in motion? This class incorporates the best of the practices of yoga, chi gong, tai chi and pilates to bring you a holistic practice that focuses on inner health – of your respiratory, lymphatic, circulatory systems and then allows you to focus on your inner organs for overall health. Whether you are recovering from a serious illness like cancer, have had a physical injury, trying to manage an acute or chronic pain, feeling low in energy and want to obtain optimal physical and mental health, this gentle but powerful practice is the one for you. Don’t wait to take control of your own health!

Getting Rebelicious with Jason Moriarty

We will take a look at re-connecting your brain to your body. This training session will inject some of the fun back into exercise, the stuff gyms took.

Exercise does not have to hardwork or boring. We will walk, run, jump, throw things, balance on things and maybe climb a few things. Getting back to the functional movements and having fun like it used to be when we were kids.

You don't need a gym membership or expensive equipment to train. In fact that may be counter productive as most equipment is designed to isolate the muscle to one singular sterile movement. Your body doesn't work like that. It works in multiple directions using many different muscles to produce pain free movement patterns.

All you need is your body and some creative fun with the natural environment.

Jason Moriarty, A rebellious conditioning coach who questions all we hold true in health and fitness and finds it lacking. He dislikes working out, but loves to have fun with movement. He believes we have simple been doing it wrong and "gyms are bad for your health and soul". The food pyramid and hitting the gym 3 times a week has failed. We need a new approach. With 20 years of working with athletes from Golf to Motor Sports, weekend heros to soccer moms and even the hit TV show The Biggest Loser Asia. He has distilled it all into short, fun and effective routines.

Live to 100:

Healthy Living Revisited with Bernard

Basically Bernard will be doing a little revision of what exactly is Healthy Eating, the types of food to look out for, as well the lifestyle changes that one generally needs to incorporate. Something that sounds and looks rudimentary but is often taken too much for granted and seldom really implemented.

Bernard Loh is a lawyer by profession and has been in legal practice for 16 years. He is also an ACE qualified Personal Trainer.

For many years Bernard had been overweight, stressed and was suffering from high blood pressure as well as unhealthy cholesterol levels. Driven to find solutions, Bernard came across Healthpoint which helped him to regain his health quickly.

Today Bernard is a strong advocate of healthy living and is the co-founder of the Perfect Fit Team, the premier weight management coaching team which operates in Malaysia, Singapore and within the region.

Bernard has in the past few years coached many people in various countries to regain their health, trains and develop new coaches and regularly speaks to audiences within this region on health, obesity and other related topics. Bernard has also been invited to appear on national radio and television to speak on similar topics.

The Journey into Backbends with Michaela

Physically backbends open the hips, strengthen and stretch the legs as well as the lower back muscles. Other benefits include increasing the flow of blood, massaging the vital organs and glands as well as loosening the joints.

Backbends boost energy levels, relieve tensions stored in the muscles and release natural pain-killers

After reading a great article on backbends from the yogaway.com, its great to hear that backbending is not just about bending back.  It is an equal practice of lengthening the front of the body and moving sideways. There are also several inversions that come along with backbends so the practice includes turning upside-down. Iyengar said that backbends massage and exercise the heart in much the same way that running does. The upper thigh muscles are used to push the pelvis forward while the feet and hamstrings muscles support the lift of the hips, legs and lower back. By moving the spine both forward and backward, the heart is stretched in many directions increasing the flow of blood. Unlike running where the knees receive a full impact from each step taken, backbends realigns and reinforce the ligaments of the knees and ankles.

Aside from the tremendous physical benefits there is a large psychological aspect to backbending. Our minds are challenged through our bodies and our fears are brought to the surface. Backbends have the power to teach us to become more patient with ourselves and to persevere with the task. The mind moves faster than the body which needs time to catch up. Backbends offer important life skills like will, discipline and care. For a good life and a happier one, life needs these. And being true to life, backbending is no exception in that there are set-backs and pitfalls. As baffling that may sound the goal was never about getting your feet to reach your buttocks but in making the path your goal.

This class is suitable for students, who are not entirely new to practicing yoga. Alternative options of how to take the poses will be given to those who are not experienced.

Michaela is originally from Germany and has lived in Malaysia since 1999. Having been a yoga practitioner for many years she enriched her knowledge and practice further when she arrived in Asia.

Michaela studied under several well-known Senior Iyengar Yoga Gurus from Australia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and the USA. She became a qualified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and started teaching in 2004. Besides running her own yoga studio in Country Heights, Kajang, she is also conducting classes at Yogashala in Taman Desa.
